Muḥammad al-Amīn al-Shanqīṭī [d. 1393/1973]

محمد الأمين الشنقيطي Born 1325/1927 in Eastern Mauritania in the land of Shinqīṭ (Chinguetti District) to a family of scholarship and learning, his father died when he was a child and he began his Islamic instruction from his maternal uncles and aunts before moving on to the senior scholars of his region. He arrived in Saudi Arabia in 1367/1947 for Hajj and wound up staying there teaching tafsīr in Madīnah until 1371, then moving to teach in Riyadh until 1381 when Madīnah University opened, after which he became a distinguished member of their faculty.
